In July 2014 a new experience system was implemented in Folderol. Although it will have some negative impact on a few XP awards, overall XP awards will be slightly greater and more adapted to higher level characters. The base table of XP points has been updated to reflect the additions that were added with HtoU for levels 20 to 40.
XP CAP
The XP is upper cap is now level dependent with a range of 310xp at Level 1 to 500xp at Level 39. This upper cap applies to all killing related XP. Killing a Boss might give a Boss XP Bonus, which is in addition to any capped XP.
Distribution, Bonus’s & Penalties
All partied & alive PC’s within 20 metres of the creature killed by the party member will receive a share of the XP awarded for that kill. There is a small bonus applied per qualifying member in the party, with additional bonus for groups of 2 to 4 characters. Some Bosses give an additional bonus for killing that can take the XP award above the XP Cap (see above). There is now a small bonus to the PC that dealt the killing blow.
Each henchman, etc that is part of the group will instil a small XP penalty per henchman to the XP awarded. Finally, the range that you can gain experience from as been opened up so you may get more XP when killing creatures with a Challenge Rating of Effortless.
Partying
The XP awarded is calculated on the average level of all the members of the party. The old system was based on the highest level. This means that their is a greater potential for XP reward where the PCs are of a different level than under the old system. There is however a range limit of 10 levels. If the party level difference exceeds 10 levels then only the minimum XP will be awarded.
Levels
XP is calculated from experience points rather than actual level. This basically means if you have enough XP for level 4, but still on 2 (because you decided not to level up), the XP award will be calculated based on level 4.
Other ways to earn XP
The usual method of earning additional XP is by completing quests. In addition, at low levels it is possible to gain XP from successfully picking plants. There are training facilities too that allow a character to pick up small amounts of PC. So keep your eye out, because you never quite know when you might get an XP reward.
